As an adult film fan, I've always respected the class and professionalism of Vivid releases; films that feature top talent and production values, safe sex practices, and nonviolent, plot-centered storylines.

Having said that, with the exception of "Immortal Desire" and the "Rocco Loves. . ." series (the announcement of Rocco Siffredi's retirement dashed my plans for "Rocco Loves Goldenmuse;" oh, well!), I don't own a great number of Vivid films. I often wish that -- in terms of its box art, camera angles, and website -- the studio would place a greater emphasis on its male talent and female viewership.

Finally, with the release of VIP 54, Vivid has fulfilled -- and well exceeded -- these expectations.

First, I should warn female viewers that -- such is the case with many Vivid features -- you will have to sit through the usual round of phone sex ads ("Do you want to talk to hot college girls?" "No. Go back to class and get the hell off my TV screen.") and plugs for simulated vaginas ('insert' own tasteless joke here. I just did).

Yet hang tight, Gals, because your pleasure begins only moments later -- as the screen goes dark and you overhear a phonecall between two women planning a ladies night out.

Then you hear the voice of Evan Stone, saying the words that most hot-blooded American women would love to hear from Evan Stone.

"Heh, Doll. Damn you look good. I've been missing you all day."

The scene illuminates to reveal Evan, looking as gorgeous as ever, hovering seductively over Mercedez -- a ravishing brunette who is quickly becoming a favorite among male viewers.

The two engage in a passionate lovemaking scene that -- aside from a full array of positions -- features nice touches such as a succulent backrub courtesy of Evan, lots of hot kisses, and some genuine passion between the principal players.

As the scene concludes, Mercedez informs Evan about her planned 'ladies night out' at a local nightclub.

After overcoming an initial temptation to question her character's sanity (girls' nights out are grand and all, but not if this man is at home in your bed!), one's opinion abruptly changes when one sees the club in question.

After all, Julian and Voodoo are lounging on a couch at the center of this jazzy nightspot. And the bartender is Jean Val Jean.

OK, Ladies; before we continue. Did we all take our heart medication and make our prerequisite Good Vibrations run before starting this disc? Just checking. . .

In a move that earns a resounding thumbs up from this reviewer, Mercedez cops a plea of thirstiness so she can make a beeline for bartender Jean; who, with his flawless good looks and strong acting skills, is adult's answer to the matinee idol.

After a heated flirtation, the two settle in to watch the evening's entertainment. Quick trivia quiz, Readers! In a porn movie set at a nightclub, what is the evening's entertainment?

a. Yodelers b. Impressionist theater c. A heated menage a trois involving a busty blonde woman and two muscular men

Yep, you guessed it; Voodoo and Julian hook up with Nicole Sheridan in the middle of the nightclub, trying every position possible as their fellow clubgoers look on with hilarious expressions that range from "What the hell?" to "Whatever."

With all of this excitement, Mercedez nearly forgets about the friend scheduled to meet her at the nightclub. Yet after enjoying the floor show, she retreats to the ladies room to give her a call.

This restroom has no attendants to pass on mints or handtowels -- but Devon is on hand to offer Mercedez some energetic lesbian sex. Nice of her.

Guys will love this scene; ladies can either take a popcorn break or bite the bullet and enjoy it -- these ladies are lovely.

Mercedez' long lost friend, meanwhile, is enjoying an evening at home with her boyfriend. Kelli Tyler and Nick Jacobs make a cute couple, and have a comfortably romantic -- if not overly thrilling -- scene.

Yet 'thrilling' is the only word to describe the grand finale -- a passionate tryst between Mercedez and Jean Val Jean. These two set the screen on fire, presenting deep, affectionate kisses and expert lovemaking techniques in equal measure. Better yet, the camera captures each of their bodies in equal glory.

Concluding words: VIP 54 is a top-flight Vivid production embued with a fun, passionate spirit. It's ideal for women, men and couples. Good show!
